International Women’s Day, 2023

This webinar is part of a series of events marking International Woman’s Day (8 March).  The theme this year is Embrace Equity, and the Education Exchange session will focus on Equity in Education inspired by the following statement; 

Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality. Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity.

About the panel

This is a panel event, with speakers from around the world, followed by questions from the audience. For those who attend the webinar, there will be an attendance certificate to download after the event.

Our speakers:

Mrs Tumisang Thabela, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Zimbabwe.  

From 2009 to 2017, Mrs Thabela served as Provincial Education Director for Matabeleland South Province. As the highest-ranking education official in the province, she oversaw about 8,600 staff and more than 650 schools. Mrs Thabela was responsible for the strategic direction and leadership of the education sector as well as the development, implementation and monitoring of education policies and programmes. She successfully built partnerships with other Government agencies, civil society, communities and the private sector to increase and improve access to quality education.

Mrs Thabela was appointed to her current role in 2018.

In addition to her work-related appointments, Mrs. Thabela has also provided leadership in civic organisations. She has served as the Chairperson of the Evangelical Lutheran Church’s highest governing body, the national governing assembly. She is also a member of the Forum for African Women Educators (FAWE), an organization that helps to advance the cause of educating women in Africa.

Mike Tibbits, Chemistry teacher and Global Learning Coordinator at Droitwich Spa High School & Sixth Form Centre in England.  

The school has long-standing international partnerships in Kenya and India, including the Ramjas RK Puram school, New Delhi.  Mr Tibbits will share his experience of delivering a secondary school curriculum that places gender equity at the forefront.

Ms Tabinda Anjum, Headmistress at Government Girls High School, junior model Khanpur Dist Rahimyar Khan, Punjab for the last 8 years . 

Ms Anjum has been associated with teaching learning at public and private schools for 14 years . She is validated trainer for the Core Skills /ISA and leadership programme since 2018. As ISA lead and winner, she has been working with different international schools and organization on climate action, peace and, particularly, gender equality and girls education.
